Time Evolution of the Bootstrap Current Profile in LHD Plasmas

چکیده
The direction of the bootstrap current is inverted in the outward shifted plasmas of the Large Helical Device (LHD). In order to verify the reliability of the theoretical models of the bootstrap current in helical plasmas, the rotational transform profiles are observed by the Motional Stark Effect measurement in the bootstrap current carrying plasmas of the LHD, and they are compared with the numerical simulations of the toroidal current profile including the bootstrap current. Since the toroidal current profile is not in the steady state in these plasmas, taking care of the inversely induced component of the toroidal current and finite duration of the resistive diffusion of the toroidal current are important in the numerical simulations. Reasonable agreement can be obtained between the rotational transform profiles measured in the experiments and those calculated in the numerical simulations

Energetic-Ion-Driven Global Instabilities Observed in the Large Helical Device and Their Effects on Energetic Ion Confinement
This paper reviews various global instabilities destabilized by tangential neutral beam injection (NBI) in the Large Helical Device (LHD) plasmas. These global modes are toroidal Alfvén eigenmodes (TAEs), which are also observed in tokamak plasmas, and helicity-induced Alfvén eigenmodes (HAEs) which are observed only in three-dimensional plasmas such as LHD plasmas. Moreover, reversed magnetic ...

The relation between the safety factor profile, q, the electron transport and the bootstrap current is of crucial importance for predicting advanced scenarios in burning plasmas which will have dominant electron heating and small momentum input. In recent experiments in the Tokamak TCV, the full plasma current has been sustained with only off-axis co-current drive and bootstrap current. As soon...

Comparative studies were carried out to elucidate the most essential parameter(s) for control of density profiles in LHD heliotron and JT-60U tokamak plasmas. Different collisionality dependence was found between two devices. Change of fluctuation property was observed at different density profile in both devices in plasma core region. In JT-60U, increase of radial correlation length was observ...

Abstract. This paper reports the development of reversed magnetic shear (RS) plasmas with a large bootstrap current fraction (fBS) towards reactor relevant regime, especially lower q95 regime. By utilizing large volume configuration close to the conductive wall for wall stabilization, the beta limit of RS plasmas is significantly improved. As a result, high confinement RS plasmas with large fBS...
